South America / Antarctic Cruise 2004
Friday & Saturday, January 30-31, 2004 - At sea, & Puerto Montt, Chile

Friday was spent cruising down the Pacific Ocean about 30 miles off the coast of Chile. We
took the opportunity to become acquainted with our home for the next three weeks. |

During the afternoon we attended a lecture about Puerto Montt by Port Lecturer Graham ??.
He is a wealth of information and a marvelous raconteur. The evening brought on the Captain's Welcome Aboard Champagne Reception, formal attire. Saturday we arrived at Puerto Montt, gateway to Chile's Lake District. A full day Craig tour (6 am breakfast in the cabin) took us first to the Petrohue Falls in a National Park. En route we stopped at a cabin resort where there were alpacas grazing for our photo pleasure. |

Then through the Lake District to Lake Todos los Santos & snow-capped Volcano Osorno - last eruption 1850 |

And on the way back a stop to view snow-capped Volcano Colbuco, with swimmers to contrast
(and daisies for an "artsy" photo) |

After a delicious lunch at an inn on Lake Todos we continued to Puerto Vara for some shopping
(and a few photo ops). |

Finally back to Puerto Montt for the tender back to MS Amsterdam |
